Tragic Passenger Vehicle Crash in Northeastern Brazil Claims 15 Lives
A intercity bus journeying through northeastern the country met with a tragic accident, resulting in 15 people dead, according to local officials.
Details of the Accident
The vehicle was carrying approximately 30 passengers when it veered off and collided with a sand embankment, causing it to flip on its side. The number of injured individuals transported to local medical facilities is unclear.
The journey began in the region of the state of Bahia and ended tragically in Saloá, located in the adjacent state of Pernambuco state.
How It Happened
Preliminary information suggest that the driver lost command of the vehicle, entering the opposite lane and hitting boulders on the shoulder. Subsequently, the driver got back into the correct lane but then crashed into a sand embankment, which led the vehicle to overturn.
The reason behind the crash is presently under investigation. The driver suffered minor injuries and tested negative for alcohol consumption.
Response and Support
The governor stated that the government is providing assistance for rescue efforts and identifying the victims. In a statement, "We are following the situation and sincerely regret the fatalities, the injuries and the suffering of all the affected families."

Earlier last year, a bus with a sports team overturned on a road, resulting in 3 fatalities.
