Chelsea Boss Maresca Dismisses Man City Links as Pure Rumour
Chelsea gaffer Enzo Maresca has labelled fresh reports linking him with a return to Manchester City as nothing but hearsay.
The 45-year-old, who previously worked as Pep Guardiola's right-hand man in Manchester, addressed the persistent speculation surrounding his future.
Maresca, named Chelsea manager in June 2024, is under contract running through the end of the decade, with a potential extra year option.
"It doesn't affect me at all because I know that is 100% speculation," Maresca stated. "And at this moment, there is no time for such distractions."
He went on to explain, "First of all, because I have a contract here until 2029. And my focus, I have stated many times, is solely on this club and I'm honoured to be here. But again, it's rumour. One week ago I was connected to a role in Italy with Juventus. So I don't pay attention because I know that is without foundation."
Chelsea, currently sitting fourth in the top flight, are scheduled to face Newcastle United this Saturday in a 12:30 GMT fixture.
Tensions Following Recent Comments
Maresca's most recent comments follow after he referred to a previous two-day spell as his most difficult since arriving at Chelsea.
Those original words had sparked widespread speculation of a potential disagreement between the coach and the club's ownership hierarchy.
When pressed if he had discussed matters with the club's sporting directors, Maresca responded, "We are in the same building, so we speak about various topics. But about the Everton media session, no."
The manager did confirm he would "absolutely" stay at the club next season and called on supporters to "continue to support the team".
In more positive news, Maresca indicated that sidelined attackers Liam Delap and Estevao Willian could be back ahead of schedule, possibly available for a match against Aston Villa later this month.

The apparent strain between Maresca and the Chelsea board remains as an open wound that still cause concern.
While there has been no deepening of the situation in the open, there has equally been no apology forthcoming, leaving the disagreement unaddressed.
