Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, occasionally with swastikas, they stated in a official communication.
Officers say they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police report early analysis show the substance was probably human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.
A senior official commented the incident made him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of foreign heritage in 2020.
